Travertine is a unique stone that comes in many different finishes. Travertine comes in what is known as filled and unfilled. In other words, travertine naturally has holes that run throughout the stone. When the holes are filled in, the stone has a smooth finish.
Travertine can have a honed (matte) finish or a polished finish. In time, the finish becomes scratched or etched. Holes become exposed in the filled travertine.
